Description

Don't miss this quiet cul-de-sac off another cul-de-sac home in the highly desired Chesterbrook Woods Community. Chesterbrook Elementary School, the driving force behind the current owners' move, remains a sought after Elementary School and part of the renowned Fairfax County Public School System. ~~~~~ The front entrance opens to a most welcoming and spacious foyer, featuring a curved staircase and gleaming hardwood floors that spread in all directions, from the office and back hall on the left, the hall to the kitchen straight ahead and the living room and then dining room to the right. These big open spaces flow easily from one to the next and make entertaining a dream! The bright remodeled kitchen has an island with a breakfast bar as well as a generous eating space able to accommodate the perfect kitchen table! Just beyond the family room is the mudroom/laundry room with quick access to the garage. The family room bump out offers two access points to the upper deck, which is connected to the lower deck. ~~~~~ The back hallway, which leads from the family room back to the foyer, is where the two generous coat closets are conveniently tucked away! This hallway also provides quick passage to the half bath and the amazing main level office! ~~~~~ The generous upstairs landing leads to the three spacious secondary bedrooms (one of them en-suite), the hall bath and the hallway the master suite. Besides a very spacious bedroom the master suite also features a dressing room/sitting room with wall closets to compliment the double walk-in closets on either side of the entrance to the spa-like master bathroom. All three bathrooms on the bedroom level have been beautifully remodeled. ~~~~~ A nice straight stairway, that could accommodate a chair lift, if needed, leads the way to the lower level. The finished half features a rec room with fireplace and built in wet-bar that could easily be a LR/DR combo for visiting relatives, an au-pair, or simply a party space. The oversized bedroom on this level has a beautiful view, large closet and easy access to the full bath. The great deck off the rec room connects to the upstairs deck off the family room for easy entertaining flow. The unfinished half of the lower level offers tons of storage and a bonus "bunker room" to boot - and the only limit to THAT space is your imagination! Since there is a sub-basement, the lower level floors could easily be finished with hardwoods. ~~~~~ And when the kids don~t feel like playing games or riding their bikes in the cul-de-sac, they can have their special double secret club meetings in the custom play house witnessed only by the handprints on the wall of all the other double secret club members before them! ~~~~~ All these wonderful, generous spaces throughout the house are laid out perfectly for comfortable living. Whether entertaining friends and family or just hanging about the house relaxing, you'll never want to leave... but if you do, everything you need is just minutes away. As a matter of fact, the Chain Bridge into DC can be reached in just FOUR minutes! ~~~~~ Want to be able to easily entertain for parties but not feel like you~re living in a ballroom when it~s just you and yours during the week? Like to have space for everyone to be together or space for each to have their own? Love the open concept but not sure how to arrange your things? A little wall space here and there can be quite a useful thing in all those regards. Turn the kitchen into a wreck when you cook but like to have people over without having to clean up first? A well placed door (or set of doors) can solve that easily! And sometimes you just don~t need to hear what~s happening at the other end of the house and those walls and doors are your salvation! ~~~~~ So what are you waiting for? The next owner of this house could stay put for another 23 years, just like the current owners have... and you'll miss your chance!

McLean

McLean is located between the George Washington Parkway to the east and the rapidly growing business center of Tysons Corner to the west. It stretches almost 10 miles southeast to northeast along Old Dominion Road. A century ago, the strip of land known as Old Dominion Road was an electric railroad line on the Great Falls and Old Dominion (GF&OD) service running from Georgetown to Great Falls. One stop on the Railroad was at Ingleside, a crossroads midway between Langley and Lewinsville, where the McLean Post Office was established in 1910. McLean was named in honor of John R. McLean, publisher of The Washington Post and stockholder of the railway.

McLean is steeped in history dating back almost 400 years to the time of the sixth Lord Fairfax. One of the more notable estates was known as Salona. It was built on part of the 2,862 acre grant known as Langley. During the war of 1812, the estate’s owner, the Reverend William Maffit, reportedly gave refuge to President James Madison as the British troops burned Washington D.C. During the Civil War, Salona served as the headquarters for Union General William “Baldy” Smith. Salona remained a working farm until the late 1940’s when the current owners began selling acreage. State Representative Clive and Susan DuVal began purchasing Salona in stages beginning in 1953. The DuVal family later generously arranged for the preservation of the house and property. Fairfax County is currently in negotiations to transform the remaining acreage into a park with open space and playing fields.

Quality of Life

McLean is home to many diplomats, members of Congress and high ranking federal government officials. While McLean may be better known for its upscale residences and famous politicians, it is offers a variety of homes for several different income levels. Prices begin in the low $200,000’s for modest garden and high rise apartments, shift upward to the $400,000-$700,000 price range for typical townhouses and modest detached homes, and skyrocket to over $5 Million for custom, one-of-a-kind private residences that overlook the Potomac River.

The McLean community is bustling with active community organizations, established to allow residents and visitors the experience of area cultural opportunities. Original, high-quality theatrical productions, professional classical music presentations, and art exhibits are available year-round at the McLean Community Center. The recently renovated Dolly Madison Library is an oasis of quiet tucked into a corner of McLean Central Park. Clemijontri Park is a fabulous new ADA accessible children’s park complete with a beautiful, old fashioned Merry-Go-Round. McEnearney Associates is proud to Sponsor Mac’s Mercury, a handsome stallion that calls the Carousel home. McLean Hardware, a local institution since 1948 is a wonderful alternative the Big Box Hardware store. They have plenty of young staff ready to help you find just the right tool the moment you walk through their doors. Another classic McLean experience is dinner at the McLean Family Restaurant. Don’t be surprised if you see a former Speaker of the House enjoying an old fashioned dinner in the booth next door. McLean Family has been serving up hot meals since 1955. And if your car needs repair, the friendly and honest mechanics at McLean Service Center will take care of that too. They have been fixing cars since the time of the 1953 Chevy Bel-Air.

Two very secret, but well recognized entities have world headquarters located in McLean, the Mars Candy Company and the Central Intelligence Agency. Neither discloses the number of employees working on site, claiming that information is strictly “need to know.”

Transportation

McLean is conveniently located near three major highways, the Beltway, Rt. 495, Rt. 66, and The G.W. Parkway. The main local thoroughfares are Rt. 123, named after Dolly Madison and Old Dominion Drive. Since the completion of the Silver Line, McLean now has its' own Metro station located at Tyson's Corner.
